The findings of the study highlight the uneven distribution of climate risks across Russia’s territory. In the south-west of the country, risks are predominantly associated with heatwaves and water scarcity; in the north-east, with permafrost degradation and wildfires; and in the south-east, primarily with flooding. The authors also identified regions facing multiple overlapping risks, emphasising the need for comprehensive adaptation strategies capable of addressing potential non-linear effects of climate-related threats.

The article was prepared with the involvement of researchers from the A.M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as researches from the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology at the HSE University.
