Igor Makarov Speaks at the Bank of Russia Financial Congress

Igor Makarov emphasised that a key trend in global decarbonisation is the shift of its epicentre from developed countries to the developing world. Igor Makarov pointed out that emerging economies are becoming the new driving force of the climate agenda: 87% of energy investments in the Global South are already directed towards green technologies. China leads in both the scale and comprehensiveness of its climate policy, while Europe is experiencing a slowdown due to setbacks in technological competitiveness. In the United States, the energy transition continues, despite political fluctuations.
Igor Makarov also noted that the peak of global emissions is likely to be reached in the second half of the 2030s, largely due to the efforts of countries in the Global South.
