Alexander Shestakov Delivered a Masterclass "Biodiversity: Current Situation and Future Challenges"

The decline in biodiversity is now recognised as one of the key environmental challenges facing humanity. This process carries serious risks, from threats to food security to the emergence of new epidemics and the disruption of the natural balance of ecosystems.
During the masterclass, Alexander Shestakov presented the main approaches to biodiversity conservation based on international experience and legal mechanisms. Drawing on his many years of work in biodiversity conservation and in UN negotiation processes, he spoke in detail about the activities of leading international institutions coordinating countries’ efforts to protect nature.
Particular attention was given to issues of international regulation and Russia’s participation in shaping the global biodiversity agenda, with an emphasis on the importance of intergovernmental cooperation in the face of global environmental challenges.
At the end of the meeting, Alexander Shestakov answered questions from the participants, including students of the master’s programme "Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development."
