The International BRICS School: New Generation brought together 200 young leaders from 80 leading Indian universities, think tanks, public organisations, and youth associations. Participants included students, early-career researchers, diplomats, public figures, entrepreneurs, and journalists aged between 18 and 35.

Igor Makarov, Head of the Department of World Economy and Director of the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change, delivered a lecture entitled “Towards the Post-2030 Sustainable Development Agenda”. In his presentation, he discussed the challenges facing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations General Assembly through to 2030 and outlined possible approaches to transforming these goals within the framework of the next development agenda.

Igor Makarov also highlighted the potentially special role of BRICS in ensuring that the post-2030 sustainable development agenda fully reflects the interests of the developing world. He stressed that this would require a transition from merely formulating a list of goals towards creating mechanisms for their financing and developing new models of socio-economic development.
