Laboratory for Climate Change Economics at the 12th Annual Conference on the Global Economy

Researchers from the Laboratory for Climate Change Economics took part in the 12th Annual Conference on the Global Economy, titled  “Challenges of catch-up: Emerging countries in the global economy”, organized by the School of World Economy at the HSE University.

At the conference, the Laboratory, together with the Center for International and Comparative Legal Studies, presented a report titled “Towards Global Green Leadership: Priorities for BRICS Cooperation on Climate Change.” The report examined the climate policies of BRICS countries and explored avenues for international cooperation in climate governance.

Igor Makarov, Head of the Laboratory, moderated the session “Lighthouse of Successful Catch-Up: Growth Stories in Changing Global Environment.” He also delivered a presentation titled “Transition Risks: Insights from the Laboratory for Climate Change Economics,” in which he shared projections for global fossil fuel exports through 2030 and 2050, as well as potential implications of CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) implementation in China.

On the final day of the conference, a youth session was held, where Elizaveta Smolovik, Junior Research Fellow at the Laboratory, presented her report “Consequences of the Energy Transition for Different Countries: A Vulnerability Index.” Her presentation focused on analyzing country-level vulnerability rankings in the context of the global energy transition.
