Expert Nikolai Golovko spoke at workshop on AI in Africa
The event formed part of the ongoing African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Conference hosted at Makerere University, under the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Notions of Identity.
Among the participants of the workshop were experts and scholars from universities in Uganda and South Africa. They discussed challenges and opportunities facing African countries in the context of developing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
In his presentation, Nikolai Golovko spoke about African countries' approaches to AI development, continental and national strategies for its ethical use, and its integration into strategically important areas of national development. He also highlighted the challenges associated with the use of foreign machine learning algorithms.
Expert’s participation in the workshop was part of agreement on cooperation between HSE and Makerere University in the field of expert-analytical and scientific research and education. The exchange of copies took place during the Ministerial segment of the 3rd Uganda-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) in Kampala, Uganda, on October 8, 2025.
