HSE Center for African Studies participated in the Russia–Tanzania Intergovernmental Commission and the Tanzania–Russia Business and Investment Forum

A series of events aimed at strengthening Russia–Tanzania cooperation in the fields of digitalization, education, expert exchange, and investment collaboration has concluded in Tanzania. Experts of the HSE Center for African Studies participated in the event, providing expert support for international dialogue.

Delegation of the HSE Center for African Studies at the Tanzania–Russia Business and Investment Forum

From May 12–16, a delegation of the HSE Center for African Studies, consisting of Director Andrey Maslov, Leading Expert Nikolay Golovko, and Director’s Assistant Elizaveta Evseeva, presented analytical and expert materials for participants and took part in the 3rd Meeting of the Joint Russia–Tanzania Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The Russian side of the Commission was headed by Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation; the Tanzanian side – by Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of State, President’s Office, Planning and Investment. 

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Tanzania–Russia Business and Investment Forum was held on May 15 at the Arusha International Conference Centre. The forum was co-organized by theTanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority, the Russian Export Center, and the Roscongress Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

During the session «Overview of Tanzania’s Investment Climate and Opportunities for Russia», Andrey Maslov discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation and highlighted the most promising areas for future collaboration and investment, including e-governance, energy, logistics, mineral resources, education and human capital development, and healthcare.

The plenary session of the Intergovernmental Commission on May 16 concluded the series of events in Tanzania organized with the participation of the HSE Center for African Studies. Earlier, on May 6–8, the Center organized a Spring Knowledge Sharing School for e-Governance in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, as part of the e-Governance Knowledge Sharing Program, implemented by the HSE Center for African Studies, with the support of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development and the Innopraktika company. The Tanzanian partner was the Tanzania ICT Commission. The event was also supported by Roscongress International platform of the Roscongress Foundation.
