Applied project works of the department

Current trends in the global economy and international relations, a new level of technological capabilities, including the IT sector, and the specific development patterns of national economies increase the importance of accounting for business peculiarities in different countries, understanding the features and professional use of project and process management tools, as well as developing and updating development strategies in international business.

New approaches in the field of competitiveness management and the theory of system interaction create prerequisites for students to effectively master professional competencies aimed at analyzing the external environment and developing effective management decisions in international business, assessing the internal environment of international business participants, effective planning and management of their activities, and developing and deploying long-term development plans for international companies, taking into account the specifics of the external and internal business environment.

Interdisciplinary student project works of the Joint Department with "Avtorpomimport" "Features of Doing Business in Different Countries", "Project and Process Management in International Business", "Development and Implementation of an International Company's Strategy" have been implemented for ten years in interaction with the Rostec and Rosatom State Corporations and their partners, leading enterprises in the fields of oil extraction, mechanical engineering, chemistry, energy, hardware and software solutions, and applied analytics that are actively operating in the international market.

Joint Department with "Avtopromimport"

Since 2012, students of HSE University have participated in the preparation of more than 50 projects, which have received high praise from the management of leading industry enterprises.

The communicative goal of the project work is to develop interdisciplinary interaction skills and unlock the potential of personal communications while carrying out an applied project as part of student teams under the guidance of leading scientists and practicing specialists.

Each project work consists of 3 stages:

Stage 1 – work in specialization groups aimed at structuring the theoretical provisions on research topics required for the project work, followed by a collective discussion of the results obtained at the final meeting.

Stage 2 – application of the results from stage 1 to a test project (case study) within consolidated groups. Presentation of the prepared material and obtained results at the final session, collective discussion, collective discussion of the obtained results at the final meeting.

Stage 3 – application of the formed competencies to solve current problems of enterprises in the real sector of the economy that are actively operating in the international market.

Project work "Features of Doing Business in Different Countries"

The project work "Features of Doing Business in Different Countries" is aimed at structuring theoretical approaches to planning and conducting international business and their practical application. Students justify the choice of the best location for doing business, the territorial distribution structure of an international company, analyze the features of the socio-economic and political environment, government regulation measures, and use modern models for assessing and forecasting competitiveness.

The applied goal of the project work is to assess the peculiarities of doing business in different countries in relation to specific areas of activity of the State Corporations Rostec and Rosatom, and to develop proposals for their development using non-financial co-investment instruments (PSKK, State Industry Information System of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia).

Applied topics from previous years: factors of nuclear energy competitiveness in the context of the introduction of a carbon tax in different countries (Rosatom State Corporation); segmentation of the small modular nuclear power plants (ASMM) market and conditions for the competitiveness of Russian manufacturers (Rosatom State Corporation); ensuring business competitiveness in the field of hydrogen energy in different countries (potential active market participants) (Rostec State Corporation, Rosatom State Corporation, Gazprom PJSC).

The work is carried out in one of 4 specialization areas within teams of 3–5 people: 1) Socio-economic factors; 2) Legal and political environment; 3) Economic structure; 4) Analysis and forecasting.

Project work "Project and Process Management in International Business"

The project work "Project and Process Management in International Business" is aimed at structuring theoretical approaches and practical application of project and process management tools in international business. Within the framework of the project work, students develop and justify solutions to practical problems aimed at preparing, evaluating the effectiveness, implementing development projects, and developing processes in international companies. Participants assess and forecast operational results, the contribution of various structural divisions to these results, apply financial and economic analysis tools, project and process management, and modern models for assessing and forecasting competitiveness.

The applied goal of the project is to develop development projects and update processes for promising product lines of enterprises of the State Corporations Rostec and Rosatom and their partners, including the use of non-financial co-investment instruments (PSCC, GISP of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia).

Applied topics from previous years: evaluating the efficiency of energy generation based on small modular nuclear power plants (ASMM) (as part of the activities of energy generating companies) (Rosatom State Corporation); a portfolio of power generation development projects under carbon taxation to ensure the competitiveness of an international generating company (assessment of CO2 emissions for different generations) (Rostec and Rosatom State Corporations, Gazprom PJSC); development of a project for creating and promoting digital twin solutions on the global market (Rostec and Rosatom State Corporations); development of a project for organizing production and promoting pumping equipment for the oil and gas industry on the global market (Rostec State Corporation).

The work is carried out in one of 3 specialization areas within teams of 4–5 people: 1) Marketing, production, and personnel projects and processes; 2) Economic, financial, and risk assessment projects and processes; 3) Analysis and forecasting of key business competitiveness indicators.

Project work "Development and Implementation of an International Company's Strategy"

The project work is aimed at structuring theoretical approaches and practical development of development strategies for international companies. During the project work, participants acquire skills in solving practical problems related to the selection, planning, and effective deployment of an international company's development strategy, taking into account the analysis of the company's performance, the structure of key competencies, business conditions, the contribution of structural divisions of the company in question to the preparation and deployment of the strategy, and modern competitiveness models.

The applied goal of the project is to develop strategy projects for product lines for enterprises of the State Corporations Rostec and Rosatom, and their implementation using non-financial co-investment instruments (PSCC, GISP of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia).

Applied topics from previous years: development strategy for the small nuclear power plants' (SMR) direction as part of the activities of a modern energy generating company; development strategy for hydrogen energy in Russia (and other countries) under current macroeconomic trends; development of a digital twin development strategy (Rosenergoatom Concern (Rosatom State Corporation)).

Work in one of 3 specialization areas within teams of 3-5 people: 1) Corporate business strategies (key competencies and competitiveness factors, strategic alternatives, internationalization strategies, and strategic alliances); 2) Contribution of functional blocks to the company's development strategy (finance, marketing, production, HR, R&D); 3) Modern methods of analysis and forecasting, financial and economic model, MCK-model.

Participation in interdisciplinary projects in the field of international competitiveness will allow participants to structure theoretical approaches and apply in practice tools for planning and conducting international business, operational management in international business, and practical development of development strategies for international companies.
