On Friday, December 20, 2024, the XVII Scientific Conference of the Association of Japanologists was held at the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Conference page on the Association's website). This is the first conference within the framework of our project “National and Regional Cybersecurity Strategies and Institutions of East and Southeast Asian Countries”.
At the plenary session a report on Japan's cybersecurity strategy was made by Galina Yurievna Nikiporets-Takigawa Galina Yurievna, head of the Research and Study Group. The main emphasis of the report was on the presentation of the Japanese government's vision of the role of cyber security in the country, as well as comparing the importance of approaches to digital security in Japan and other countries of East and Southeast Asia. Special attention was paid to comparing the policies of Japan and China, which in many ways represent alternative models of cybersecurity. In addition, Galina Yurievna began her report with the news that our team had passed the project competition with the project “National and Regional Strategies and Institutions of Cybersecurity in East and Southeast Asia” and the Research and Study Group “ASEAN+, BRICS+, NATO+: Prospects for Asian Integration in the New World Order” had been officially established.
It is noteworthy that the conference was attended by quite a number of students, not only graduate students, but also bachelors and masters, and students from the RSG team Elanskaya Elizaveta and Ivan Moldavanov participated as attendees.
At the end of the main session, there was an opportunity to exchange views with many researchers from Japan, China, SEA, Middle East who were present. The topic of cybersecurity, covered in the report by Galina Yurievna Nikiporets-Takigawa, sparked an active discussion. A number of researchers and experts showed great interest in the activities of the Research and Study Group, and it was possible to schedule their presentations at the upcoming RSG events.
