Lecture 9 December «Arab emigration to Europe: pros and cons» [VIDEO]

On the 9th of December, a lecture was given by the President and founder of the International Youth Council Friends Association, Oussama Zebda. Middle East Club publishes a report on the event and a video recording with time codes

What was the lecture about?

Oussama Zebda, the President and founder of the International Youth Council Friends Association, gave a lecture about the Arab emigration to the European countries, its pros and cons. The lecture was focused on the timeline of the Arab immigration to the European continent, recent events concerning the increasing number of immigrants in the second decade of the XXI century, brain drain in the Arab world, and advantages and disadvantages of the Arab immigration for both the EU and the Arab world.

Main conclusions

During the lecture, the participants learned about the history of the Arab immigration to Europe and its impact on the European countries with a more precise focus on some of them: Spain, Portugal, the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands. Furthermore, Oussama Zebda spoke about brain drain in the Arab countries and, in this connection, he demonstrated the results of KAS PolDiMed 2020 Survey. Finally, the speaker explained pros and cons of the Arab immigration for the European countries at first, and subsequently for the Arab world.

Questions after the lecture: reasons why immigrants choose the EU, process of the integration into European society, consequences of the coronavirus on migration, French presidential candidate Eric Zemmour’s proposition concerning illegal immigrants, attitude of the European citizens towards immigrants and working places.
