Scientific seminar on 19 May 2022 at 5 pm Moscow time.

Our guest will be a leading Indian expert, Distinguished Fellow at Observer Research Foundation (ORF) Nandan Unnikrishnan. The topic of the seminar is “Geopolitical shifts in Eurasia and its impact on Russia-India relations”.

In the 75th year of establishment of Russia-India ties, the special and privileged strategic partnership has often been seen as remarkable for its stability and resilience. Through a long period of national and international upheavals, the two countries have steered their bilateral relationship for the achievement of their respective national interests. Now, as another period of global realignment accelerates and the international order evolves, Eurasia is at the center of this flux. Having become the center of gravity towards which the world’s geopolitics and geo-economics has shifted, the region is set to play a key role in determining the future world order. As two key powers in Eurasia, India and Russia are expected to be at the forefront of this ongoing evolution, resulting in a wide-ranging impact on their foreign policy. In the light of these developments, how is the realignment in Eurasia expected to impact Russia-India strategic partnership? What are the challenges and opportunities ahead, especially in the light of the ongoing Ukraine crisis? Are we looking at the beginning of a stark shift in the conduct of this long-standing relationship, and what are the roles the two countries will adopt in this emerging Eurasian realignment?

Venue: Malaya Ordynka 29, conference room 306.
