I International Conference

Globalization in Contemporary Asia

 

The goal of this international conference, that covers several large regions of Asia, is not just to unite specialists in regional studies and orientalists of HSE, Moscow and Russian regions, but also to create inclusive permanent expert platform based in the Higher School of Economics for the development of a new format of Russian oriental and regional studies. It is planned that this conference will become annual and current issues of socio-economic and political development of countries and regions will be discussed here on a regular basis.

1. Section "East Asia in a global perspective"

Head and coordinator of the section - Vladimir Malyavin, professor at the School of International Regional Studies.

The section is focused on the following research topics:
  • Civilization and Sociocultural Identity in Asia
  • Politics and Power in Asia
  • Trade and economic relations of Asian countries: trends and prospects

  • Dusan Prorokovic, Director of the Center for Eurasian Studies, Institute for International Economic and Political Studies RAS(Serbia);

2. Section “Near and Middle East“ Global and Regional Actors: Issues of Interaction in Solving Conflicts and Crisis Situations ”

Head and coordinator of the section - Andrey Baklanov, Professor at the School of International Regional Studies.

The section is focused on the following research topics:
  • Russian interests in Middle East and Eurasia 
  • Prospects for China's Role in the Middle East 
  • Middle East and Asia - Joint Response to Challenges and Threats 
  • Iran: Politico-military Aspects of Development, Stabilizing role of Russia
  • Pakistan and cooperation with the Middle East in the context of China’s growing role

3. Section "Southeast Asia in a globalizing world: challenges and solutions"

The section is focused on the following research topics:
  • General problems of socio-economic development of the region
  • Revitalization of China's role in the region
  • Russia's interests and the promotion of Russia's influence through the SCO

4. Section "South Asia in the light of modern global trends"

Head and coordinator of the section - Olga Solodkova, Associate Professor at the School of International Regional Studies.

The section is focused on the following research topics:
  • A new stage in Russian-Indian relations 
  • South Asia - Security Issues and Counter-Terrorism in the Region
  • India's growing role in the region

Promising areas of cooperation between Russia and India
