Event ended

On October 8, 2018, Ulrike Reisner, journalist and an independent political observer from Austria, will give a talk “Be Democratic! Dogmatism, Catchwords and Combat Terms in EU Political Rhetorics ” at the seminar held by the International Relations department of the HSE.

Venue: 17 Malaya Ordynka, room 315

Time: October 08, 2018 at 17:00

Abstract

Flanked by leading media, the EU elites are crusading against those national governments and their representatives that are marching to a different tune. To reach this goal, senior representatives of the EU institutional bodies are misusing the ideas and traditions of democracy and the rule of law and downgrading them to mere catchwords and combat terms. Should a “juridification ” of their political language legitimize their power-political interests? The lecture will provide some insightful perspectives on this topic, including analyses of current examples.

Working language: English
