Seminar 36. Makkhan Lal: “India in the Contemporary World”

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, the Department of International Relations and the International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism held the 36th session of the Eurasian Online Seminar.

Our guest was a distinguished archaeologist and historian Prof. Makkhan Lal. The topic of his talk was “India in the Contemporary World”.

Prof. Makkhan Lal taught in Banaras Hindu University and Aligarh Muslim University before moving to Delhi in 1998 as the Founder Director of Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management. He was also Senior Fellow (2011-2014) and then a Distinguished Fellow (2015-2017) at the Vivekananda International Foundation, New Delhi, a leading independent think tank of India.

Prof. Makkhan Lal has published 18 books and about 200 research papers in national and international journals on Indian history, archaeology and Civilization. He is regular contributor to various Newspapers on current affairs. Some of his books are: Rise of Civilization in the Ganga-Yamuna Doab, Archaeology of Population, Ancient India, India and the World in Ancient Times, Educating to Confuse and Disrupt, History of Jana Sangh, Gandhi's Assassination: What the Documents Say? and Secular Politics Communal Agenda. He is also Co-Editor of the first five volumes of Eleven Volume series on History of Ancient India, being brought out by Vivekananda International Foundation. In recognition of his outstanding academic works Prof. Makkhan Lal has been awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Senior Fellowship which he is expected to join soon.
