Georgy Kutyrev on the military-industrial complex of Spain for the RIAC

Georgy Kutyrev, a researcher at the International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism, published an article about Spanish military-industrial complex at the Russian  International Affairs Council.

According to the author, the largest arms suppliers to date are the United States, Russia, China, France, Germany, the UK and Spain (listed in ranking order). Among the EU countries, the Spanish military industry looks like one of the fastest growing. Madrid stands for the development of the European defense industry and expects to receive large dividends from the development of the European military alliance.

The recent increase in defense spending was mainly directed at the Spanish Navy, including plans to build diesel-electric strike submarines of the S-80 class, the acquisition of five F-110 class frigates, patrol ships and naval helicopters. Also, the Spanish airline Iberia won a contract with Airbus Defense & Space for the conversion of three new A330 civilian aircraft into the A330-MRTT (MultiRole Tanker Transport) multi-purpose tanker transport.
