The Dean and the staff of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs took part in the Russian-African conference “Russia–Africa: Strategy of cooperation in a multipolar world”
The second session “Cooperation for development: economics and technology” was conducted by A.B. Likhacheva. The following topics were discussed: the first results of the practical implementation of projects in various sectors of the economy, supported earlier at the Second Russia-Africa Summit; new areas of cooperation of interest to African countries; opportunities for integrating Russian cooperation projects into the pan-African development strategy. During the session, a presentation of the Valdai Note “Tanzanian virgin land for Russian business” was held as well.
According to F.A. Lukyanov, who moderated the session “The year after the Russia-Africa summit: The Political Dialogue between Russia and African countries at the present stage”, African countries are interested in development. The most important thing is to strengthen their own resilience. To do this, African countries are ready to cooperate with everyone, including the former colonial Powers, no matter how they treat them. Russia has the advantage of having no negative colonial background. Russia is a modern, rapidly developing country with significant opportunities in precisely those areas of modernization in which Africa needs it.
Also acting as experts at the Russian-African Conference were I.A. Makarov, Head of the Department of World Economics at the Faculty of World Economics and International Affairs of the Higher School of Economics, and A.A. Maslov, Director of the Center for African Studies of the Higher School of Economics.
