First-year students in the Masters’ programme on Socio-political and Economic Development of Modern Asia recently took part in a number of conferences by serving as interpreters at the events for official foreign delegations.
On April 30 Alexander Lukin, Head of the School of International Affairs participated in the international conference dedicated to the cooperation among China, Russia and Mongolia, which took place in Dalian, China.
Oksana Sinyavskaya is Associate Professor at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and a leading Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Development Studies, Centre for Studies on Income and Living Standards. She will be giving a paper at the XVI April International Conference on Economic and Social Development about the problems of ageing in Russia. From the 18th to 21st February the biggest American (in fact international — like the American Association of Political Science) professional association of researchers in international relations, global politics and comparative politics, the International Studies Association held it’s 56th annual convention, this time in New Orleans. As in recent years, more than 6,000 participants came from all over the world.
On November 19-20, 2014, HSE hosted the conference ‘Global Governance: Nominal, Real and Alternative Structures’. The conference focused largely on the paradigm shift in geopolitical and geoeconomic structures of the modern world, as well as the underlying causes and long-term implications of such changes. Professor Alan Cafruny of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, presented a paper at the Conference focused on the crisis of Europe’s economic and monetary union. We talked with Professor Cafruny as he shared his opinion on the union, Germany’s role in NATO, and much more.

The sixth ‘New View’ conference for junior Japan experts has come to an end. The conference was organized by HSE’s School of Asian Studies together with the Japanese culture division of the Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature (Japan Foundation) and the Association of Japanese Studies.
