The participants were presented by Russian and Indonesian scholars and practitioners, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation officials. Mark Beeson, the University of Western Australia professor, was a special guest of honor.
The discussion raised a number of questions related to the forthcoming Strategic Partnership in Russia-Indonesia relations with the emphasis on the following:
➢ What is the present and prospective specificity of the international milieu in which Russia and Indonesia develop their relationship?
➢ What can the Strategic Partnership mean for Russia and Indonesia in terms of solving the strategic objectives of their development?
➢What does the Russia-Indonesia Strategic Partnership mean for the multilateral formats with the participation of Russia and Indonesia, primarily the EAEU and ASEAN?
➢How should the current institutions of cooperation be upgraded in order to respond to the spirit of the Strategic Partnership?
➢ Which components (if any) of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Vietnam can be adapted to the forthcoming Russian-Indonesian Strategic Partnership?
➢ What do the Greater Eurasia Partnership and the Indo-Pacific Region mean for Russia-Indonesia cooperation in the format of the Strategic Partnership?
The roundtable discussion was moderated by head of the Center for Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania, IOS RAS, Professor DrSc. (History) Dmitry Mosyakov (Panel 1) and head of the study section of the countries of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific, Professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies at the Higher School of Economics Dr.Sc. (History) Evgeny Kanaev (Panel 2). The results of the roundtable discussion will be published as the collective monograph entitled “Changing Russia-Indonesia Relations: Successes, Emerging Issues and Prospects”.
