The topic of the meeting is “The Global South: Bilateral and multilateral cooperation formats”. The meeting was opened by Dr. Olga Volosyuk, Head of the School of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the HSE University.
Prof. Baklanov shared exclusive information on the emergence and evolution of the concept of the “Global South”, the role played by such public and political figures as J. Nyerere, I. Abdallah, and W. Brandt in the creation of specialized structures in this field.
Dr. Andrey Baklanov spoke about meetings with these prominent politicians and revealed some previously unpublished facts concerning the exchange of views between Russian representatives and the main developers of the concepts of the Global South regarding the possibilities of interaction on the formation of a more balanced political and economic world order.
Prof. Baklanov also spoke about recent contacts with representatives of Arab and Asian countries on this topic. He stressed the need to determine whether today we are talking about the formation of new structures to implement the tasks of the new international order, or about combining the efforts of interested states to exert pressure on existing structures (IMF, IBRD) to take more account of the interests of Afro-Asian countries, China, and the Russian Federation.
