The session was moderated by Professor A. Baklanov, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Studies Section at the School of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University and Deputy Chairman of the Association of Russian Diplomats.
The keynote speech was delivered by the Honorary Guest of the conference, A. Faraj, Head of the Russian-Saudi Business Interaction Department at the Center for Interdisciplinary Strategic Studies of the Saudi Chamber of Commerce.
A comprehensive discussion took place regarding the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the MENA countries in shaping the new political, financial, economic, and trade order in the modern world.
Participants in the discussion included: A. Al-Wahishi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the Russian Federation; V. Smirnov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, Head of the Israel and Jewish Communities Department at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the RAS; I. Durre, Turkish political scientist and publicist, Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Regional Studies at Moscow State Linguistic University; A. Bykov, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Central Asian Studies of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the RAS; M. Sadygzade, visiting lecturer at the School of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University; Y. Shangaraev, President of the Middle East Club at HSE University; A. Kuznetsov, visiting lecturer at the School of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University; and N. Kuliyeva, a PhD student the School of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University.
During the session, the significance of the report “New International Economic Order: Historical Background, Current Situation, and Russia's Strategy”, published in October 2024 (project leader: Professor A. Baklanov), was highlighted. An important feature of this document was the involvement of activists from the Middle East Club, as well as students and postgraduates from HSE University and other Moscow higher education institutions (Y. Shangaraev, E. Yanitsky, V. Apostolov, A. Koteneva, D. Selyauskina, A. Mironov, among others).
Several participants expressed their willingness to contribute to the preparation of a compilation of key documents on the international financial-economic order as part of a project managed by the School of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University.
Concluding the discussion, Professor A. Baklanov noted that the opinions and assessments expressed during the session would be taken into account when preparing practice-oriented documents on the new international order and related educational materials.
