Participation of Alexander Lukin in events dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Liang Shumin
Alexander Lukin took part in the conference and celebrations dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the outstanding Chinese thinker and public figure of the 20th century Liang Shuming, organized by the Qufu Normal University and the Society for the Study of Confucius of Shandong Province.
The head of the department of international relations and of the International Laboratory for Research on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism, Professor Alexander Lukin, took part in the conference and ceremonial events dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the outstanding Chinese thinker and public figure of the 20th century Liang Shumin (1893- 1988). The events were organized by the Qufu Normal University and the Confucius Society of Shandong Province and took place in the homeland of Confucius in the city of Qufu and in Zuping County, Shandong Province, China.
On December 9, at the Pedagogical University of Qufu, Alexander Lukin made a report on the study of the ideas of Liang Shumin in the USSR and Russia at the scientific conference “Liang Shumin and the modern transformation of Confucianism.” In his speech, he spoke, in particular, about his meetings and conversations with Liang Shuming in the 1980s. The text of the report was published in the conference proceedings, and leading Chinese experts on Liang Shuming and modern Confucianism took part in it.
On December 10, the conference participants held in Zuping, where in the 1930s Liang Shuming tried to implement his ideas of “rural construction” while actually governing the county. They visited the Shandong Institute for the Study of Rural Construction of Liang Shuming, located here, where they held a scientific seminar “Liang Shuming and Rural Construction in Shandong” and viewed the exhibition “100 Years of the Study of Rural Construction in China.” Then, ceremonies were held at Liang Shuming's grave on Huangshan Mountain, and the “Liang Shuming Memorial Hall” at Zuping No. 1 Middle School was also inspected. During the visit, Alexander Lukin held negotiations on cooperation with the Confucius Institute of Culture of Qufu Normal University.
