The third simulation game "International Conference on Security and Cooperation in the Persian Gulf Zone"

On March 24, 2021, the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affair, HSE University, together with the Russian Middle East Association, organized the Third Simulation Game "International Conference on Security and Cooperation in the Gulf Zone", which allowed students of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs to immerse themselves in atmosphere of international negotiations.

The scientific supervisor of the project was Dr. Andrey Baklanov - Professor, Head of the Section for Studies of the Middle East and North Africa of the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University, Deputy Chairman of the Association of Russian Diplomats.

The game was held in the format of negotiations of six teams representing the Russian Federation, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, Iran, and the United Kingdom.

Representatives of each of the teams made welcoming addresses, after which they moved on to voice their vision of the concept of security in the Persian Gulf region.

As a result of negotiations, as well as meetings "on the sidelines" of the meeting, the participants of the event agreed to continue consultations, as well as to create a working group to monitor the security system in the region and a working group to promote the intensification of trade and economic ties.

According to the head of the game, in the course of its preparation and implementation, the participants received practical skills in preparing reference and information materials, draft speeches at international forums. Projects to establish monitoring mechanisms to verify the facts that raise the parties ' concerns were particularly successful. 

The game was attended by students from the HSE, MSU, RUDN, RSUH, GAUGN, SPbSU, North Caucasus Federal University, Ural Federal University, RANEPA and Fudan University.
