Features of political processes in the region were discussed in detail in two program reports: Dr. L.S. Okuneva (MGIMO University, ILA RAS) focused on global trends of right populism, focusing on its Latin American version in the Brazilian projection, a Dr. Z.V. Ivanovsky (ILA RAS, MSU, “Iberoamérica”) devoted his speech to the growth of the opposite trend in the political space of Latin America: the so-called “pink wave”. The logical continuation of the report was the speech by Dr. L.V. Diakova (ILA RAS) about the situation of left forces in Chile and Dr. T.V. Vorotnikova (ILA RAS), who introduced the participants to the conclusions about the factors of convergence and disunity of left forces in the region as a whole. The issues of political solution of migration crises in Latin America were discussed in the report of Dr. N.Y. Kudeyarova (ILA RAS), military cooperation - in the speech of Dr. A.I. Stepanov (ILA RAS), humanitarian relations - in a joint speech of Dr. A.Y. Borzova (RUDN University) and Dr. O.V. Volosuk (HSE University).
The second half of the session, which was devoted to the issues of Russia’s relations with the Latin American countries at the present stage, opened the report of Dr. R. Petrovic (Institute of European Studies, Belgrade) on the peculiarities of Russia’s policy in the region in the 21st century. The report of Dr. D.M. Rosenthal (ILA RAS), which considered the strategic positioning of Latin American countries on key issues of the international agenda, demonstrated the importance of taking into account the position of each country for the development of Russian policy in the region. The logical continuation of this conceptual report was the presentations by A.L. Araujo Esteves (HSE University) and Dr. A.V. Shcherbakova (HSE University) dedicated to individual issues of cooperation between Russia and Brazil.
During the discussion, participants touched upon the political, integration and trade and economic processes in Latin America; sustainable development in the Ibero-American countries; sanctions policy in the western hemisphere; Russia’s interaction with the countries of Iberoamerica.
