Globalization in contemporary Asia: Expert Seminars

The expert roundtable with Seyed Mohammad Kazem Sajjad Pour, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran was of the great interest of the participants of the conference, lecturers and students of HSE University

M. Sajjad Pour is one of the most well-known and experienced diplomats of the Near and Middle East; he shared his evaluations of the situation in the region and described the main principles and directions of Iran’s foreign policy in the contemporary conditions.

He underlined that nowadays Iran consistently implements a line aimed at ensuring that the principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter be implemented, including the Middle East region and the Persian Gulf zone. The future of the entire system of international relations largely depends on the success of the struggle of the Iranian people for their right to sovereignty and independent self-determination of their development path.

M. Sajjad Pour encouraged the creation of the international monitoring system for the maintenance of security and implementation of the confidence-building measures in the region. He also answered the questions of the participants of the roundtable and HSE students.

The expert roundtable with Naseem Khan Achakzai, Executive Director, Center for Sustainability Research and Practice, University of Lahore was conducted.

The Pakistani scientist described one of the largest infrastructure projects of the South Asian region – China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that will connect the Pakistani port city of Gwadar with China. This corridor will become an important component of “New Silk Road” and will allow increasing the trade of South Asian countries with the countries of the Near and Middle East.

N. Achakzai described the main features of this project. He underlined that implementation of it will allow increasing the level of economic development and life of people of Pakistan and will have a beneficial effect on the situation in the region.

This issue was discussed constructively and businesslike. HSE teachers and students, representatives of the Indian Embassy in Moscow took part in the discussion. The participants of the roundtable noticed the great relevance of this topic, the need to study and take into account the positions of all interested parties to strengthen security and enhance cooperation between the states of the South Asian region and other countries of the world.
