Andrey Maslov took part in the Russian Government's strategic session on the development of foreign economic activity
On December 12, 2023, the Government Coordination Center hosted a strategic session led by the Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Among the invited participants were executives and representatives of the higher educational institutions, heads of major companies and organizations involved in international trade. The topic of the discussion was the development of Russia's foreign economic activity with the increasing role of developing economies in the background.
Andrey Maslov, Director of the HSE Center for African Studies, was also invited to participate.
In his opening remarks, Mikhail Mishustin noted that Russia at this stage solves two large-scale tasks in foreign economic activity - reorientation of trade flows and creation of an independent financial architecture. Within the first task, pipelines, roads and ports are being built in the southern and eastern directions.
"Logistics projects will also ensure Russian presence in Africa and Latin America. These are very promising markets for the promotion of domestic technologies, products and services, including exports of education and healthcare".
From January to September 2023, Russia's trade turnover with friendly countries increased by 21%. That is not only the trade with its partners in the Eurasian Economic Union, CIS and SCO, but also with African countries.
