Expert and analytical handbook "Africa 2025: Prospects and Challenges" is published in full on the Center's website
The expert and analytical handbook “Africa 2025: Prospects and Challenges” by the Center for African Studies of the HSE University is available for study and download, as well as its individual chapters.
The English-language limited edition was presented during the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi on November 9, 2024. The book is the result of four years of fruitful work done by researchers of the HSE Center for African Studies. It was edited by A. Maslov, Director of the Center, and published with the support of Uralchem Group.
The publication covers a wide range of topics:
- macroeconomic situation in the Africa's countries, their internal and external debt, the cost of debt financing and the foreign trade diversification (chapter “Measuring Africa's Wealth and Money”);
- major trends in agricultural development and consumption traits, the relationship between food sovereignty and population growth, and the role of fertilizers and food reserve systems in solving food crises (chapter “Food for Africa: from food security to food sovereignty”);
- state of African energy sector, the role of diesel generators, and the prospects and challenges for the African countries posed by the energy transition (chapter “African resources to African markets: making mining and energy work for Africa”);
- major trends in education and creative economy, the growing role of African businesses in African economy, and how Africa is perceived by the world's leading think tanks (chapters on “Education is power: who teaches African leaders”, “Vision of Africa in the mirror of think tanks around the globe”, “Identifying the DNA of African Creativity”, and “African businesses - the emerging regional and global players”).
A special attention is paid to digital sovereignty, which is important for strengthening public institutions in Africa. These and other aspects of the e-Governance issue are covered in the chapter “African quest for digital sovereignty”.
