Session “Modern Regional Studies: Methodological Issues” of the 5th International Conference “The World Majority in New Realities: the Regional Dimension”

The section was held on November 30, 2023. It focused on building a conceptual framework for regional studies as a separate scientific direction.

The Session focused on setting the conceptual framework of:

  • Regional studies on the professional chart
  • Regional studies vs other professional training areas (International Relations, World Economy, Asian Studies etc.): a comparison of competences
  • Specific scientific and disciplinary methods of regional studies: Is the synergy of trans-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary methods sufficient?
  • Regional studies: prospects for inclusion in the nomenclature of scientific specialties for awarding academic degrees
  • Approaches to Regional studies methodology in different countries: what can Russian specialists learn?

The issues raised and discussed in presentations made by Alexey Kuznetsov, Evgeny Kanaev, Ekaterina Yurchik, Marina Glaser, Vadim Makarenko and Olga Volosyuk, as well as during the discussion that followed, will contribute to the formation of Regional Studies as an individual academic discipline.
