On March 19, 2026, the Centre for Water Resources Research at the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change held its third Water Workshop, entitled “Water Finance for Solving Water Challenges”, marking World Water Day. The seminar brought together experts to discuss contemporary financial instruments needed to address the global water crisis and support the development of sustainable water infrastructure.

On March 12, 2026, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Arctic Studies at the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change held its second Arctic Research Seminar, dedicated to the role of non-Arctic Asian states in the Arctic governance system. Participants discussed how Asian countries are shaping their Arctic policies against the backdrop of a changing geopolitical environment.

Igor Makarov, Director of the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change, and Elizaveta Smolovik, Junior Research Fellow at the HSE Laboratory for Climate Change Economics, together with Alexander Chernokulskyand Tatiana Aniskina from the HSE Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technologies, have published an article in Forbes Russia examining climate risks across Russian regions. The authors presented the findings of a study that ranks Russian federal subjects according to their vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.

On March 5–6, 2026, the International BRICS School: New Generation was held at the Russian House in New Delhi. The event was organised by the BRICS Russia Expert Council with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and was dedicated to BRICS under India’s 2026 chairmanship.

On February 26, 2026, the Russian International Affairs Councilhosted an expert discussion entitled “The Role of Arctic and Non-Arctic States in the New Arctic Configuration: Perspectives from Mexico City and Moscow”. Among the speakers was Irina Strelnikova, Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Arctic Studies at the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change.

On February 25, 2026, the second Arctic Research Seminar, entitled  “Developments and Transformations in European Union Arctic Policy before and after 2022,”  was held at HSE University. The event was organised by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Arctic Studies at Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change, HSE University.

On February 19, 2026, the Centre for Water Resources Research at the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change held its second monthly Water Workshop, dedicated to the geopolitics of water in Latin America. Experts discussed how the growing interest of global powers in the region is linked to access to freshwater resources and how realistic the scenario of “water wars” might be.

On 10 February 2026, the 4th International Academic Conference “The Arctic in Contemporary World Politics” was held at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The event was jointly organised with the Arbatov Institute for U.S. and Canadian Studiesand the Russian Center for Scientific Information, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federationand the Federation Council of Russia.

On February 10, 2026, the Centre for Centre for Interdisciplinary Arctic Studies at Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change, HSE University, held its first Arctic Research Seminar, entitled “The Greenland Question: Factors, Prospects and Development Scenarios.” Experts examined the impact of the Greenland agenda on transatlantic relations, security, and global markets.

On January 28, 2026, the Centre for Water Resources Research of the Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change at HSE University held its first Water Workshop. Participants discussed institutional constraints and opportunities for regional cooperation in the field of water security, with a particular focus on Kazakhstan.
