HSE Center for African Studies held negotiations with ENSIA

On January 26, 2025,  HSE Center for African Studies met with the  National School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSIA, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Intelligence Artificielle) in Algiers.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for joint research and areas of possible cooperation (including machine learning, big data processing and AI). The meeting took place on ENSIA’s campus in Sidi Abdellah Technology Park, a western suburb of Algiers.

The Russian side was represented by Andrey Maslov, Director of the Center for African Studies and Coordinator of the  e-Governance Knowledge Sharing Program , and Deputy Coordinator Philipp Grinin. As for their Algerian colleagues, the meeting was attended by Abdelmalik Bachir, Professor of Computer Science and Director of the National School of Artificial Intelligence, and also by its Deputy Director, Fouad Dahak.

During the meeting Andrey Maslov presented the HSE Center for African Studies and its projects, with special attention to the flagship project – e-Governance Knowledge Sharing Program. Director Bachir in turn, presented ENSIA as Algeria’s leading institution in the fields of AI and data science. Established in 2021, it serves as a national university on the territory of the Sidi Abdellah Technology Park, in the western suburbs of Algiers. As of November 2024, it has about 700 students enrolled. 

Among the topics for discussion were academic exchanges and joint research, organizing joint events on digital transformation, AI and digital labeling. Russian and Algerian sides have outlined steps to further develop relations and deepen educational cooperation.
