The Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA) was founded in 2006 after a restructuring of the Faculty of World Economy (WE), which was established in 2002.

Our main educational principle is interdisciplinarity—when international relations, economics, regional and national studies are studied inseparably from each other.

Our faculty unites the best teachers, academicians, leading practitioners, advanced researchers, talented students, and outstanding graduates from 70+ countries around the world.

International projects and conferences, international academic and research mobility, double degree programmes, language courses in target-language countries, and a network of international partnerships—that is our faculty.

International Dialogue and New Approaches: Highlights from Fudan University’s Summer School

At the beginning of July 2026, students from the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs took part in the Summer School on International Relations organised by Fudan University (China), one of the leading international educational programmes in this field. Over the course of two weeks, they explored contemporary approaches to global governance and the development of the Global South, attended lectures by renowned scholars from around the world, and discussed current international issues with fellow students from across the globe.

WEIA Faculty and East-China Normal University are launching joint academic supervision of doctoral dissertation research

In July 2026, the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA) of HSE University and East-China Normal University (ECNU) signed an Agreement for Doctoral Dissertation Co-supervision and Defense. The Agreement heralds a new stage in the partnership between WEIA Faculty and ECNU, which harkens back to the 2013 Agreement on student exchange. Since then, cooperation between WEIA Faculty and ECNU has expanded beyond academic mobility, and is set to reach a new level – joint training of researchers.

HSE University and Peking University Expand Their Partnership

Peking University President Gao Song paid his first visit to HSE University as part of his first overseas trip since taking office in May 2026. The main purpose of the talks was to consolidate existing areas of cooperation and expand joint projects between HSE University and Peking University within the framework of the Cross Years of Russia–China Cooperation in Education (2026–2027).
