July 8th
The 4th working day of our Summer School turned out to be both fruitful and fun. It started with the presentation from Anton Tamarovich, the representative of the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, who told about the Fund's inner structure and operation, its current projects and plans for the coming year. Besides that, the presenter provided the students with the detailed instructions on how to get involved in educational programs the Fund offers.
The meeting continued with the lecture of Vladimir Petrovsky, Chief Research Fellow at the Centre for Russian-Chinese Relations Studies at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. V. Petrovsky outlined the current state of the Russian-Chinese relations, told about bilateral cultural and educational cooperation.
The highlight of the day was the Russian Cultural Evening. Chinese participants had the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of both traditional and modern Russian culture. They were able to test their knowledge of the geography, classical literature and modern music of Russia. For instance, our Chinese friends were asked to listen to the songs of Russian singers in Chinese and to match them with the photos of performers.
In addition to intellectual activities, there were a lot of physical ones: round dance games, the fairy tale "Repka" (turnip) which heroes were Chinese students, and even the “Skibidi”-song dance flashmob.
At the end of the evening participants received memorable presents and enjoyed traditional Russian home-made food — dumplings with various staffing and Russian pancakes with sour cream, jam and condensed milk. Also students could taste other typical Russian goodies - pryanik (kind of gingerbread), toffees, bagels - and drink “Tarragon” (which seemed to one of Chinese student like a toothpaste. Although she liked it :)
