On March 17, 2015, Dr Thomas Graham, a managing director at Kissinger Associates, an international business consulting firm, spoke at a seminar on Rethinking American Foreign Policy for a New Era conducted jointly by HSE’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy. Dr Graham has been working with HSE for quite some time, visiting the university in 2013.

On March 13, the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs’ Asian Club held a meeting where Professor Makhan Lal, Director of the Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management and Director of the Vikvekanand International Foundation, spoke on ‘Traditional Culture and Modern India’. He kindly agreed to give an interview to the HSE news service and share his thoughts on the role of traditional culture and values in modern society.
From the 18th to 21st February the biggest American (in fact international — like the American Association of Political Science) professional association of researchers in international relations, global politics and comparative politics, the International Studies Association held it’s 56th annual convention, this time in New Orleans. As in recent years, more than 6,000 participants came from all over the world.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an executive order on recognizing almost 200 Russians for their achievements in the workplace, many years of conscientious work, and active role taken in society. Those recognized included several members of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, including Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs Sergey Karaganov and Professor at the Faculty of Law Tamara Morshchakova.

Yuval Weber, an assistant professor in the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, has been with HSE since 2014. A specialist in international relations, Weber has held fellowships at the New Economic School and the Carnegie Moscow Center. He recently spoke with HSE news service about his longstanding interest in Russia, his impressions of teaching HSE students and his advice for international students who are thinking about coming to Russia.
This was the topic of a presentation by Professor Alexey Maslov, Head of the HSE School of Asian Studies, his first talk as part of the Russia and Global Shift of Power public lecture organized in Valletta, Malta, by IDEAT foundation in cooperation with Russian Centre of Science and Culture on Malta.

On November 19-20, 2014, HSE hosted the conference ‘Global Governance: Nominal, Real and Alternative Structures’. The conference focused largely on the paradigm shift in geopolitical and geoeconomic structures of the modern world, as well as the underlying causes and long-term implications of such changes. Professor Alan Cafruny of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, presented a paper at the Conference focused on the crisis of Europe’s economic and monetary union. We talked with Professor Cafruny as he shared his opinion on the union, Germany’s role in NATO, and much more.
