On September 30, 2026, the Brazilian-Russian scientific seminar "From Europe to China: Russia's Bargaining Position and the Power of Siberia 2 Negotiations (2022–2025)" took place, strengthening academic ties between HSE University and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).

For International Relations and Global Studies (IR&GS) student Daria Ivanova, Brazil has long been much more than just a place on the map. Since her first year at HSE University, she has studied Portuguese and hoped to build a career connected with the country. An exchange programme gave her the opportunity to turn that ambition into reality. In Florianópolis, Daria studied at Santa Catarina State University (UDESC), travelled across Brazil and beyond, made friends from around the world, and immersed herself in a culture she had long wanted to experience first-hand.

Today, a university is more than just a place to earn a degree. It is a space where students develop critical thinking and discover a passion for understanding the world around them. It is also a starting point for a future full of possibilities. What defines modern education in international relations? What does a 21st-century international relations specialist look like? And what principles underpin HSE University's Bachelor's programme in International Relations and Global Studies (IR&GS)? We discussed these questions with Oleg Korneev, Academic Supervisor of the IR&GS programme. An international relations researcher with academic experience in Russia, France, the UK, Italy, and Belgium, Korneev now leads a distinctive undergraduate programme at HSE University.
