International Conference "EAEU Strategies in the Age of New Protectionism"
On May 12, 2020 the international conference "EAEU Strategies in the Age of New Protectionism"organized by the Eurasian Sector of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics took place on the Zoom platform. Representatives of the academic and expert community from 12 countries, including EAEU member states, China, USA, Canada, Italy, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands - a total of more than 90 people - took part in the international conference in four sessions. The experts discussed the reasons, features, mechanisms and scope of potential impact of the new protectionism measures on the EAEU long-term development and proposed their vision of the most effective tools to respond to the new challenges.

Eva Guerrero Forteza was born in Mallorca, Spain, where her mother, father and sister still live. Eva has a curious mind and a ‘wish from place to place to roam’, as the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin wrote. After earning a degree in physical therapy, she worked in Spain, New York, and then in France. But, Eva notes, she has always dreamt of learning Russian and living in Russia. That’s why she first came to St. Petersburg to study Russian, and, in August 2019, enrolled in HSE’s Master’s programme ‘Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia’ in Moscow.

Ziong Chung Hieu, from Vietnam, is the first year student of the ‘Economics and Politics in Asia’ Double Degree BA Programme which offers students a unique opportunity to pursue two degrees, one from HSE and one from Kyung Hee University. He originally enrolled in HSE’s Mathematics programme last year but soon realized that mathematics was not really close to his heart. Now, after switching majors, he is happy with his choice.

HSE Master’s Programme Prepares Students for Careers in Business and Policymaking in Asia
Set to launch in the fall of 2020, HSE’s new English-taught master’s programme ‘Economics, Politics, and Business in Asia’ is now accepting applications. Students of the programme will spend their first and fourth semesters at HSE University in Moscow and their second and third semesters at Kyung Hee University in South Korea. Programme graduates will receive a diploma from each partner university. Professor Denis Shcherbakov, programme Academic Supervisor, explains what students can expect in the new programme.

In honour of the event, the university’s Palmyra Club held an evening of Arabic poetry. The future orientalists read works by their favourite authors, as well as their own translations of the poems. School of Asian Studies graduates, who had won grants to study at a university in Qatar, also shared their recommendations as to who should study Arabic.
